RFK Jr. reveals extraordinary legal twist after failed presidential bid.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has revealed that he is currently unable to vote anywhere in the United States, saying a court ruling left him without a legally recognized residence.
The Health and Human Services Secretary made the remarks while speaking to reporters in Los Angeles during an event on homelessness alongside Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner.
“I literally have no state”
Kennedy’s comments came after a reporter asked whether he was registered to vote in Los Angeles ahead of the city’s upcoming mayoral election.
Instead of giving a simple answer, he explained that legal battles dating back to his 2024 presidential campaign had created an unusual situation.
“I’m in a very strange position, because when I ran for president, the Democratic Party sued me first to get me off the ballot in 12 states, including New York and California,” he said according to The Daily Beast.
Kennedy said the legal challenges continued after he endorsed Donald Trump.
“In the course of one of those lawsuits, it was declared that I had no legal residence, and so it’s a dilemma where I literally have no state where I can legally vote right now.”
He added that he believes he may be the only U.S. citizen facing such a situation and said he is trying to resolve it before the next election.
Court rejected New York address
The dispute stems from Kennedy’s independent presidential campaign in 2024.
A New York judge ruled that the Katonah address Kennedy listed as his residence on election paperwork did not qualify as his legal home.
Kennedy testified that he rented a room at a friend’s house there but acknowledged he had only spent one night in it because of campaign travel. He also maintained that he intended to return to New York despite having moved to California in 2014.
Judge Christina Ryba concluded that claim was not credible, writing that the suggestion Kennedy could move back into the small spare bedroom with his wife, family members, pets and belongings was “highly improbable, if not preposterous.”
The court ultimately found that Kennedy primarily lived in California with his wife, actress Cheryl Hines, and ruled that identifying the New York address as his residence amounted to a false statement.
Questions surrounding Kennedy’s residency did not end with the ballot dispute.
In January 2025, watchdog organization Accountable.US filed a complaint alleging that Kennedy committed voter fraud by casting a mail-in ballot using the same Katonah address that had already been ruled invalid.
According to the complaint, Kennedy was fully aware of the court’s findings regarding his residency before voting from that address.
