Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin said negotiations on Ukraine are currently paused, linking the situation to escalating tensions involving Iran. His remarks were reported by Russian state news agency TASS from a conference in Termez, Uzbekistan.

According to TASS, Galuzin spoke on the sidelines of a Russia-Uzbekistan event organized by the Valdai Discussion Club and an Uzbek government-affiliated research institute.

He indicated that earlier diplomatic efforts had included multiple rounds of discussions involving Russia, the United States, and Ukraine.

Talks paused

“In recent months several rounds of trilateral talks between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine have been held to find ways to resolve the Ukrainian crisis politically and diplomatically. Currently, the negotiations remain on pause amid the US-Israeli aggression against Iran. We assume that we are ready to continue the discussions. However, it’s not just the regularity or frequency of the rounds that matters, but the substantive nature of the agenda is crucial,” he said.

According to TASS, Galuzin suggested that broader international developments are affecting the pace and direction of talks on Ukraine.

Position unchanged

The deputy foreign minister also reiterated Russia’s stated position on negotiations.

According to TASS, he said Moscow remains open to pursuing a political and diplomatic resolution to the conflict.

At the same time, he stressed that the content of negotiations is more important than their frequency.

The remarks underscore Russia’s view that future talks must focus on substantive issues rather than simply maintaining dialogue.
