A Russian conscript has been reported to opening fire on his fellow soldiers with an assault rifle, wounding at least 5 and killing 2, himself included, Russian newspaper Kommersant reports according to Express.
The killing spree allegedly happened in the Naro-Fominsk discrict in the Moscow region at an Aerospace Forces unit.
It has not been possible for the editorial to independently verify the reports.
Wounded soldier calls mother
According the the reports, one of the wounded soldiers managed to call his mother and tell her about the rampage.
The mother then called authorities, who sent police and an ambulance to the site.
One of the five wounded was reportedly a soldier, who was taken to the hospital with “serious injuries”. It is unclear if the shooter shot himself or was shot by authorities or other soldiers on site.
According to Express, the Russian defence ministry has not commented on the attack, but the Moscow Military District said that “a serviceman, while performing duties at an observation post, violated firearm handling rules and fatally wounded a contract soldier”.
