Russia’s Security Council secretary claims Western nations are seeking to dismantle the country.

Former Russian Defense Minister and current Secretary of the Security Council, Sergei Shoigu, has accused Western countries of pursuing a strategy aimed at breaking Russia into “dozens of independent states.”
In an article published in the Russian newspaper Argumenty i Fakty, Shoigu wrote that the West’s ultimate goal is the “de-sovereignization” of Russia — stripping it of independence and turning its regions into weak, controllable entities.
“They want to divide our homeland into dozens of small states, in order to then subject them to their will, exploit them and use them in their selfish interests,” Shoigu stated.
“Aggressive pressure” and propaganda
According to Shoigu, Western nations are exerting “aggressive pressure” through information warfare and anti-Russian propaganda, while simultaneously attacking what he called Russia’s “history, culture, and spiritual values.”
He accused Western governments of attempting to “put a knife to the harmony and brotherhood” among the peoples of Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

Shoigu claimed that these efforts rest on a misunderstanding of Russia’s diversity:
“The West mistakenly believes that our multinational character is a weakness,” he wrote, insisting that Russia’s unity and moral strength make it resilient against “destructive geopolitical technologies.”
Echoing Putin’s warnings
Shoigu’s comments mirror earlier statements by President Vladimir Putin, who has repeatedly accused the United States and its allies of trying to “strategically defeat” or “destroy” Russia.
Putin has said that Western powers are motivated by a desire to maintain global dominance, viewing Russia’s vast territory and resources as obstacles.
“It seems that someone considered our country a weak link,” Putin said earlier this year. “But no one will succeed in doing this.”
