Democrats are deeply worried that Trump has been influenced on foreign policy by Elon Musk’s chatbot, Grok.

Democratic lawmakers want to see the digital paper trail of the chat history between Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s chatbot Grok.

According to a report by POLITICO, senior House Democrats are demanding that the president keep every single chat log between the executive branch and artificial intelligence bots.

The sweeping request covers major commercial assistants like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, and Elon Musk’s Grok.

Trump becomes friends with Grok

In a formal letter, Representatives Jamie Raskin of Maryland and Robert Garcia of California laid out their demands. They told Trump to preserve “any prompts” sent to chatbots while “carrying out your constitutional, statutory, or other official or ceremonial duties,” along with every machine reply.

They are especially concerned about an instance where Trump reportedly “spent hours” talking to Grok about how the people of Venezuela would act if he decided to capture former president Nicolás Maduro.

If the Democratic Party wins back both houses in the upcoming election, they plan to run full inquiries into whether Silicon Valley software quietly swayed federal policy.

Questions over Venezuela

It was Time Magazine that first reported that Trump turned to Grok for guidance on how the public might react to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro. Just “weeks later,” Trump “ordered the U.S. military, without congressional authorization, to attack Venezuela and capture President Maduro,” according to the letter.

Raskin and Garcia called that choice “deeply troubling” in their letter. Trump consulted a bot instead of lawmakers, effectively sidestepping the power of Congress to declare war. Worse still, relying on glitch-prone code “exposes the United States to acute national security risks,” the Democrats argued.

They also allege that unchecked chatbot use inside the West Wing “exposes the country to malign influence from unknown and unaccountable third parties.”

In a statement, a White House official insisted that “the White House preserves all required records in accordance with the law.” Musk did not respond to requests for comment.
