The U.S. National Archives has released over 10,000 pages of documents related to the 1968 assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy, in a significant step toward government transparency.

The release follows a directive from former President Donald Trump to declassify previously confidential materials concerning major historical events, Reuters reports.

According to a statement posted on the National Archives website, the newly disclosed documents shed further light on the tragic killing of the senator—brother of President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated five years earlier in 1963.

This disclosure is part of a broader declassification initiative by the Trump administration, which also included the release of recordings and documents related to President John F. Kennedy’s assassination.

The initiative aims to make public previously sealed government records tied to the deaths of prominent American figures.

Calls for Transparency and Trust

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., son of the late senator and current U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, welcomed the release, calling it a crucial move toward rebuilding public confidence in government institutions.

“Lifting the veil on the RFK documents is a necessary step toward restoring trust in the American government,” Kennedy Jr. said.

Kennedy Jr. has previously voiced skepticism about the official account of his father’s assassination, suggesting that more than one gunman may have been involved—an assertion that contradicts long-standing conclusions from law enforcement investigations.

The Trump administration has also pledged to declassify materials concerning the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

However, the National Archives has not provided a timeline for when those documents will be made public, nor has it confirmed whether additional files related to the Kennedy assassinations are still pending release.
