Ukrainian military officials say pressure remains high along the Kupyansk front, where Russian units continue to test defensive lines using unconventional methods.
The latest incident reflects a wider pattern of probing attacks aimed at exploiting terrain and infrastructure in eastern Ukraine.

According to LA.LV, citing Ukrinform, Ukrainian airborne troops intervened to stop one such operation in the Kharkiv region.

Ongoing frontline pressure

Ukraine’s 7th Airborne Corps has repeatedly reported Russian attempts to gain leverage near key routes and riverbanks linked to the Donetsk River.
Rather than relying on large-scale assaults, Russian forces have increasingly operated in small, mobile groups.

These units are intended to move discreetly, assemble quickly and challenge Ukrainian positions before a coordinated response can form.
Ukrainian commanders say those efforts are closely monitored and rarely succeed.

It was within this broader operational environment that a new threat emerged near Kupyansk.

Covert movement detected

The 77th Separate Airborne Brigade of the 7th Rapid Reaction Corps said Russian troops attempted to conceal their movements using the Soyuz gas pipeline.
The tactic was meant to allow forces to approach Ukrainian-held areas without drawing immediate attention.

The brigade indicated that the activity took place north of Novoplatonivka, with Russian units aiming to push toward nearby settlements.

Details of the incident were shared by the brigade in a statement on Telegram, cited by Ukrinform.

Ukrainian forces said the maneuver was identified before the attackers could fully position themselves.

Disrupted advance

Once the movement was confirmed, Ukrainian units coordinated with neighboring formations to counter the threat.

The response prevented Russian troops from consolidating or expanding their presence in the area.

The brigade later reported significant losses among the attacking force, saying dozens of Russian soldiers were killed.

Ukrainian officials emphasized that no territorial gains were made as a result of the attempt.

They added that similar infiltration efforts continue to be tracked and neutralized as they arise.
