“White House Wire” aims to bypass mainstream media while critics warn of propaganda-style communication

The Trump administration has launched a new platform on federal servers that publishes exclusively favorable news about the president.

The site, called White House Wire, is hosted on the official government domain WH.gov/wire and has drawn comparisons to partisan outlets due to its curated selection of headlines from pro-Trump media, social media posts from officials, and official press releases.

According to Digi24, the launch coincides with ongoing efforts by the administration to sideline independent media. Associated Press journalists remain barred from Oval Office events despite winning a recent court ruling affirming their right to access.

A Direct Channel for Messaging

One White House official described the site as “a place where supporters of the president’s agenda can get the real news,” and said the administration views it as a transparency measure.

But critics argue – rightfully so – it’s a taxpayer-funded propaganda tool.

While previous administrations distributed news highlights through emails, this is the first known use of federal infrastructure to host a website publishing partisan-curated news. The design of White House Wire closely resembles that of Drudge Report, prompting its founder Matt Drudge to sarcastically threaten a lawsuit over the mimicry.

Favoring Friendly Media

Press secretary Karoline Leavitt now holds briefings exclusively for pro-Trump influencers, where questions tend to echo administration messaging. These influencers then amplify those narratives on social media, effectively bypassing traditional journalism altogether.

The rollout of White House Wire underscores the administration’s strategy to control its messaging and redefine media access, deepening concern about the blurring lines between governance and campaign-style communication.
