Donald Trump lashed out at a reporter on Thursday after she pressed him on his massive campaign pledge made ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. The confrontation unfolded outside Air Force One as the president prepared to return to Washington following a political convention in Texas.
During his swing through the state, Trump pitched a scheme to hand out $5,000 to every adult citizen in the country if Republicans hold power. The plan carries an estimated price tag of around $1.35 trillion, raising immediate concerns over government debt and rising inflation.
Confrontation on the tarmac
According to The Daily Beast, ABC News correspondent Rachel Scott asked Trump why an election incentive was necessary if his economic policies were working. Trump rejected the framing, claiming the money was not a voting bribe but a reward for surviving hardship under former president Joe Biden.
When Scott tried to ask a follow-up question regarding past unfulfilled economic promises, Trump aggressively pointed at her and shouted, “Not you!” The president stepped closer, contorted his face, and snapped, “Your network and you, you’re the worst,” before turning to take a question from another journalist.
Pattern of clashes
The exchange quickly circulated online after Scott posted footage of the incident on social media. Commenters noted the hostility of the interaction, pointing out that the reporter was simply raising basic questions about public funding and national economic health.

It’s not the first time Trump has clashed with Scott or other women in the press corps. He previously called her “rude” and “nasty” during a 2024 interview at a journalists’ convention, and he has frequently used sharp language against female reporters asking tough questions.
Despite the back-and-forth on the tarmac, White House officials have provided no official documentation on how the multi-trillion-dollar scheme would pass Congress or be funded.
