Artificial Intelligence is rapidly reshaping the job market. According to the team behind ChatGPT, three professions are on the verge of being overtaken by intelligent systems.

A new frontier: AGI is getting closer

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) aims to create machines capable of performing any intellectual task a human can do. Though still hypothetical, recent developments show that this milestone may be within reach sooner than expected.

GPDval: the test that Tracks AI’s progress

OpenAI has introduced GPDval, a benchmark test designed to assess how close today’s AI systems are to achieving AGI. It evaluates 44 professions across 9 industries, from law to software development, by comparing human and machine performance.

AI now matches humans in nearly half of all jobs

According to GPDval, AI matches or outperforms human abilities in 49% of the evaluated professions. This marks a significant leap in the capabilities of modern AI and signals deeper integration across the workforce.

The 50% threshold: a critical benchmark

Crossing the 50% mark means AI performs most tasks as well as or better than a human. Reaching this level signals a turning point, where automation could begin replacing entire roles rather than assisting with them.

1. Project managers: outperformed in strategy and execution

AI scored 52% in this role, surpassing the threshold. It automates routine tasks like scheduling and resource allocation, allowing human managers to focus on strategy — or even be replaced entirely in some cases.

Total automation in project planning

AI can process large datasets to identify risks, forecast project outcomes, and optimize workflows. These abilities reduce errors and increase efficiency, challenging the need for human oversight.

2. Software developers: AI that writes its own code

With a 50% score, AI is proving highly effective at generating code and fixing bugs. Development tools powered by AI are speeding up workflows and redefining how software is built.

Bug-free future: automated debugging and self-learning

AI not only detects bugs faster than human developers but learns from past errors, improving with every line of code. This drastically shortens development cycles and boosts reliability.

3. Content producers and directors: fast, automated editing

AI also scored 50% in this creative field, showing it can handle time-consuming tasks like editing footage, cleaning audio, generating subtitles, and even color grading — all without human input.

Post-production in minutes: a new industry standard

Automating the editing process slashes delivery times and boosts output. This technology makes high-quality production more accessible and cost-effective, even for independent creators.

The future of work: partner or replacement?

While these roles still benefit from human oversight, the trajectory is clear — AI is closing the gap. The challenge now is finding the right balance between efficiency and the irreplaceable value of human insight.
