Blizzard is preparing a major shake-up for Diablo 4, promising sweeping system changes, tougher enemies and a new way to chase power.
The update targets almost every part of the endgame, from item crafting and healing to world bosses and competitive ladders.
Developers detailed the plans in a recent livestream and blog post, calling it the most ambitious seasonal update yet for the action RPG.
Season 11 revealed
The game’s next season will be the 11th, titled “Season of Divine Intervention“, and is set to go live on 11 December at 8:30 p.m. PDT on Diablo 4’s live servers, according to Blizzard Entertainment.
Alongside the new theme, the studio is overhauling item progression through revamped Tempering and Masterworking systems.

Players will be able to pick the specific Tempering affix from recipes, with items limited to one tempered affix but gaining the chance to upgrade into powerful Greater Affixes.
Masterworking now revolves around an item Quality value that increases base damage, armor and affix strength as it rises.
Quality can be pushed to a defined cap, with a final “capstone” upgrade that massively boosts a random affix, while non-unique items gain an extra base affix slot.
Blizzard says the goal is a clearer, more controllable item chase that still rewards long-term investment.
Smarter foes, harsher world
Monster behavior is being reworked so enemies react more dynamically, lean into clearer combat roles and punish careless play.

New and updated affixes will make elite packs more dangerous, with champions forming dedicated packs and minions inheriting some elite powers.
These combat adjustments apply across Sanctuary, raising the baseline difficulty as players climb into higher tiers.
Defense and healing are being rebuilt around a new Toughness stat that summarises how much raw damage a character can withstand after mitigation.
Armor and resistances are shifting to rating systems with diminishing returns, while potions become instant percentage heals with fewer charges that slowly regenerate over time.
Fortify is redesigned as an extra pool of life that drains to heal the player, tying into updated skills, items and paragon nodes.

Lesser Evils and holy power
The season’s story focus brings the Lesser Evils back into the spotlight, each taking over specific activities in the Seasonal Realm.
Azmodan becomes a permanent world boss that can appear in rotation or be summoned from an altar near Zarbinzet, while Duriel infests Helltide, Belial warps The Pit and Andariel corrupts the Kurast Undercity.
Defeating them feeds into a new Divine Gifts system, granted by the angel Hadriel, which lets players slot boons that trade tougher content for bigger rewards, then “purify” them for even greater benefits.
Sanctification offers one last, irreversible upgrade step for prized items, with a chance to add legendary powers, Greater Affixes and bonus Quality at special heavenly forges.
Season Rank replaces traditional Renown on the Seasonal Realm, tying key rewards and new capstone dungeons to a more demanding progression track.
