A technical issue has been preventing some YouTube TV subscribers from watching their recorded programs, with viewers across multiple devices suddenly unable to start content saved to their DVR libraries. The disruption surfaced over several hours on Sunday, prompting Google to acknowledge the malfunction and begin work on a fix.

Users report seeing messages that claim their recordings are “restricted” by the content provider, even though the programs had previously been accessible without limitations.

Playback errors spread

Subscribers posting online say the glitch appears across mobile apps, smart TVs and the YouTube TV website. When attempting to watch recorded content from networks such as NBC, ESPN or ABC, the app displays warnings that access has been restricted.

The problem is not affecting all customers, but reports indicate a significant number of users encountering the same error.

In a forum post, Google confirmed it is investigating the issue and noted that no resolution is available yet.

Google acknowledges the problem

In its published message, the company wrote:
“Hi YouTube TV Users,
We know some of you are running into issues accessing your recorded programs and our teams are working on it!
If you’re experiencing this, you might see a ‘Restricted recording’ or ‘go back’ message when trying to start a recorded show.
We’ll provide updates here as soon as we have them. Thanks so much for your patience!”

Google has not offered details on the cause, which may involve rights verification or internal authentication systems.

DVR concerns surface

YouTube TV’s cloud DVR is one of its major selling points, allowing subscribers to store unlimited recordings. Issues that block playback — especially when attributed incorrectly to content providers — raise concerns among users who rely on the feature for live sports, new episodes and time-sensitive programming.

The company says it will issue updates as soon as engineers identify and resolve the fault.
