The US is allegedly the only country that can actually put a stop to the nuclear programme for good.

What is happening?

Friday last week, Israel launched a surprise attack aimed at Iran’s nuclear programme and military headquarters.

Since then, the two nations have exchanged fire, and reports of the damage done by the Israeli attack continues to emerge.

Massive destruction

Satellite images show that two of Iran’s key nuclear sites have been destroyed during the now 5-Day conflict, with before/after pictures showing rubble and craters instead of buildings.

“The whole (nuclear) supply chain has been disrupted,” Ali Vaez, the Iran Project Director at the International Crisis Group, told CNN on Sunday,

Back on track in months

According to Vaez, it would only take Iran a matter of months to put it all back together.

But how can Iran be able to do that, if key parts of their nuclear programme have been razed to the ground?

Airstrikes not enough

The thing is that a big part of Iran’s nuclear programme is hidden underground, meaning the airstrikes performed by the Israeli Airforce won’t be enough to take out the programme for good.

The Trump Card

In fact, only one country in the World has the weapon able to completely destroy the Iranian nuclear programme – and that is the United States.

Enter the “Bunker Buster”

GBU-57 or Massive Ordance Penetrator is one of the so-called “Bunker Busters” used by the US Airforce.

It’s af 13.6 Tonnes bomb designed to take out deep underground bunkers og well-protected facilities.

The big question is if Trump will actually use the bomb.

Will Trump use it?

The Bunker Busters can only be transported and dropped by American B-2 bombers, meaning that it would make the US a direct participant in the conflict, if the GBU-57’s are to be used in Iran.

“We’re going to do something”

The White House announced late on Monday that Mr. Trump was leaving the G7 summit early because of the situation in the Middle East.

“As soon as I leave here, we’re going to be doing something,” Mr. Trump said. “But I have to leave here.”

What he intended to do remained unclear.
