In a military operation conducted by Ukraine's Defense Intelligence, a large Russian ammunition depot near the city of Ostrogozhsk in the Voronezh region was destroyed.

5,000 tons of Ammunition

According to Tech the depot, which belonged to Russia's "West" group of forces, was targeted on August 24th, leading to a series of massive detonations.

The facility housed approximately 5,000 tons of ammunition, including artillery shells, tank rounds, anti-aircraft missiles, and small arms ammunition.

The explosion resulted in widespread damage, and despite the official announcement that the "active phase of detonation" ended on August 25th, sporadic detonations have continued.

Situated Between two Villages

The local authorities have intensified demining operations around the site but have yet to clear the depot itself. More than 600 residents from nearby areas were evacuated as a precaution, and the region remains under a state of emergency.

Satellite images shared by journalist Kyrylo Ovsyany of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty revealed that the ammunition depot was situated in a forest between the villages of Novaya Melnitsa and Novaya Osinovka, about 90 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

The nearest residential buildings were only about 600 meters away from the site of the explosion. This operation highlights the ongoing strategic efforts by Ukraine to disrupt Russian military supply lines close to the border.

This is not the first attack of its kind in the region. A similar strike occurred on July 6th, when Ukrainian drones targeted another ammunition depot in Voronezh,
