The Israeli military said Saturday it carried out a “targeted attack” in the central Gaza Strip, striking an individual allegedly involved in planning attacks on Israeli forces.
According to Reuters, the military identified the target as a member of the Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad, though the group has not commented publicly on the claim.
Witnesses told Reuters that a drone struck a vehicle, igniting a fire in the area. Medical officials in Gaza reported that four people were injured, but no deaths were confirmed immediately following the strike.
Tensions persist despite ceasefire
The strike comes amid a U.S.-backed ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that has largely held, but remains fragile.
Each side has accused the other of violating the agreement.

While Hamas controls much of the Gaza Strip, Islamic Jihad operates separately and has clashed with both Hamas and Israeli forces.
In a separate incident, witnesses reported that Israeli tanks shelled parts of eastern Gaza City, Gaza’s largest urban center.
The Israeli military did not issue a comment in response to those claims.
Egyptian officials reportedly allowed into Gaza
Israeli media reported Saturday that Israel, in a rare policy shift, has allowed Egyptian officials to enter the Gaza Strip to assist in the search for the bodies of hostages taken during the Hamas-led attack on Israeli communities on Oct. 7, 2023—the attack that triggered the ongoing conflict.
Hamas had previously agreed to release all hostages as part of the ceasefire deal, but the remains of 13 captives are still believed to be inside Gaza, according to Israeli officials.
