These remarks by a high-ranking Israeli minister sent shock waves after peace talks were halted

The situation in Gaza is getting uglier by the day, even with a ceasefire in place.

Rhetoric within the Israeli government on how to handle the situation is escalating.

And one in particular is calling for drastic measures fueled by a bloodthirsty ideology.

Calls for blood in the streets

Speaking on a podcast hosted by a former Israeli hostage in Gaza, Rom Braslavski, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir criticized Israel’s current strategy for being too soft. He demands harsher action in Gaza and openly disagrees with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The minister argued for a much deadlier plan in the region.

“It’s no secret, I disagree with the prime minister,” he said. “I think targeted assassinations should be carried out in Gaza, taking down 30 to 40 every night. Not just those who pose an immediate threat, there are people there who are not worthy of life. They shouldn’t live. They’re not even people.”

While he does not have decision-making power in the military, Ben-Gvir’s influence over domestic security is noteworthy. He is in charge of the national police and oversees prisons. Here, he implemented a policy that cut food rations for Palestinian prisoners. This was eventually overturned by Israel’s Supreme Court.

Deadlocked peace talks

This all stems from halted peace talks. President of the United States Donald Trump and his newly created Board of Peace recently outlined a ceasefire proposal requiring Hamas to disarm while Israel stops strikes and eventually moves out of Gaza entirely, making way for neutral observers.

But Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected this peace plan while declaring that Israel will not even think about leaving the region before Hamas gives up all its weapons.

Major conflict within the Israeli government has started to emerge with different factions publicly feuding. Reports show military leadership restricted who would be able to authorize strikes in Gaza, infuriating far-right members like Ben-Gvir who want endless bombardment and bloodshed.

Vision for Gaza

During the podcast appearance, Ben-Gvir encouraged swapping peace talks with the Palestinians for Israeli settlements across the enclave. He also urged the removal of all Palestinian residents.

“I see all of Gaza as ours,” said Ben-Gvir in the interview. “Settlements not just in Gush Katif but throughout Gaza, encouraging as much emigration as possible, sending them to their countries, and for the terrorists, no emigration, nothing, just to kill them one by one.”

Israel categorically denies that it has committed genocide in Gaza.
