Putin’s New Weapon: Experts Warn of Plan to ‘Dim the Sun’ Over UK

Could Enemy Powers Really Dim the Sun?

A chilling new warning from Whitehall reveals that ministers are preparing for a futuristic threat that feels ripped from a sci-fi script: a foreign power using doomsday tech to block sunlight over the UK.

Known as solar geoengineering, the method could plunge the nation into an artificial gloom, triggering environmental and economic disaster.

Accordign to Express intelligence circles believe this may not be a hypothetical scenario for long.

Geoengineering as a Weapon

Solar geoengineering involves injecting aerosols into the upper atmosphere to reflect sunlight away from Earth.

It’s being explored by scientists to cool the planet, but defence experts fear the technology could be hijacked for geopolitical warfare.

One spray of particles could reduce temperatures, disrupt farming, confuse wildlife and cripple Britain’s solar power capabilities.

All Eyes on Russia

Security analysts are pointing fingers at Vladimir Putin’s regime, which has shown an increasing appetite for hybrid and unconventional warfare.

If Moscow were to deploy solar radiation modification (SRM) as a covert strike, the consequences could be massive.

It would be hard to trace and easy to deny, the perfect weapon in the grey zone of modern conflict.

UK Ministers Warned of “Dark” Possibilities

According to a newly surfaced letter, ministers are being briefed on potential SRM attacks from rogue states or third-party actors.

The government has acknowledged the “urgent need” to understand this emerging threat and is calling for global cooperation to regulate and monitor solar geoengineering before it’s misused.

“Environmental Disaster Could Be Orchestrated”

Defence specialist Matt Ince says SRM’s low cost and “plausible deniability” make it a tempting tool for authoritarian states.

He warns Britain could face a deliberately engineered climate crisis, as enemies seek to undermine national stability through novel methods.

“We’ve already seen migration used as a weapon,” he adds. “Why not weather next?”

Crops, Power, and Public Health at Risk

A large-scale sun-dimming attack could cripple key parts of British life.

Farming would take a hit from reduced sunlight, while solar energy systems might fail just when they’re needed most.

Public health and natural ecosystems could also suffer in prolonged low-light conditions.

And unlike conventional weapons, there’s no easy way to retaliate or even prove who did it.

Not Yet Weaponised, But Time Is Ticking

The UK government insists it does not support the deployment of SRM but is funding research into its risks and impacts.

Bodies like ARIA, which has over £60 million in public backing, are investigating these technologies from a scientific angle.

But critics argue that regulation is lagging, and hostile powers could be years ahead in weaponising the climate.
