Drones Under Cover of Darkness
According to Dmytro Bryzhynskyi, head of the Chernihiv military administration, the attack took place overnight while the city was asleep.
In a post on Telegram, he describes how several businesses were struck directly. The city’s emergency services and utility companies arrived quickly on the scene to deal with the aftermath.
Bryzhynskyi wrote: “During the enemy’s nighttime attack on the city, several businesses were struck. As a result of the attack, warehouses, an administrative building, equipment, and vehicles were damaged.”
Residents Feel the Impact
It was not only commercial buildings that suffered in the attack. Five summer houses were damaged, and in six residential tower blocks windows were blown out by the pressure waves from the explosions.
Rescue teams worked through the night to repair the damage and secure the area.
Earlier in the night, reports emerged of a massive drone swarm over Chernihiv, with at least 15 explosions heard across the city.
This points to the scale of the attack and the systematic nature of the Russian strike.
Investigation Opened
The prosecutor’s office in the Chernihiv region has launched a criminal investigation into the incident.
The case is being handled as a war crime under Article 438, Part 1, of the Ukrainian Criminal Code.
This is not the first time Chernihiv has been targeted by Russian attacks, and authorities stress that legal proceedings are running in parallel with the humanitarian work being carried out on the ground.
