Russia’s intensified attacks on Ukraine have prompted President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to warn Donald Trump that the country’s air defenses are under growing pressure.
At present, Russia is intensifying its missile and drone attacks against Ukraine.
At the same time, Moscow has publicly issued new warnings about possible attacks on Ukrainian “decision-making centers.”
Ukraine is therefore under significant pressure, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reportedly sent an urgent letter to Donald Trump warning about how intensified and critical the situation has become, Kiyv Independent reports.
Zelenskyy also points out that Ukraine is heavily dependent on American systems in order to defend itself against the many ballistic missile attacks.
Deliveries Under Pressure
The growing concern is based on the belief that there are not enough weapons deliveries reaching Ukraine.
Officials reportedly believe that the existing stockpiles of Patriot systems and interceptor missiles will not be sufficient to withstand Russian attacks in the long term. At the same time, a source says that the challenges are particularly related to anti-ballistic defense systems.
The letter was therefore sent through Ukraine’s ambassador in Washington, Olha Stefanishyna, to both the White House and the U.S. Congress, Kiyv Independent reports.
New Threats
On the night of May 24, the Air Force reported that Russia launched 90 missiles and 600 drones against the country in an air attack.
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has previously stated that Moscow is planning larger and more prolonged attacks against Ukraine.
Nevertheless, Zelenskyy emphasizes in the letter that it is still possible to protect the country against the majority of Russian missiles, Kiyv Independent reports.
Russia’s Massive Attacks
Throughout the war, Russia has carried out major attacks against Ukraine. One of the largest occurred in May 2025, when the biggest air attack since the beginning of the invasion in 2022 took place, according to Euronews.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the country was hit by 367 drones and missiles in a single night.
At least 12 people were killed, while more than 30 cities and villages were struck by the attacks. Kyiv was among the hardest-hit areas.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the attacks as deliberate strikes on civilian targets and simultaneously called on the West to increase pressure on Russia.
