Calls for accountability
President Donald Trump recently addressed the UN General Assembly. According to LA.LV, he told officials he intended to destroy Iran, boasting openly about American military power.
Trump stated, “I have used force to make America the greatest country in the world.” He followed that up with an even older claim, stating, “To the victor goes the spoils.”
Those words alarmed Bennett L. Gershman. The Pace University law professor says the rhetoric matches a brutal reality on the ground.
Gershman is now calling for the International Criminal Court to charge Trump with war crimes. To back up his heavy demand, he points directly to a devastating new document recently published by the UN Human Rights Council.
The school attack
The UN report investigates a horrific event from February 28. American forces allegedly bombed a girls’ school in the southern Iranian city of Minab.
The strike claimed 157 lives. According to the findings, the victims included 123 children aged 13 or younger.
Beyond the students, the blast killed 26 female teachers and a local pharmacy worker. Seven parents and a school bus driver also lost their lives.
Survivors explained that the campus was hit twice in quick succession. After the first bomb struck the ground floor, teachers rushed the children upstairs to a prayer room. A second bomb then hit the upper level.
Nowhere to hide
Investigators quickly made a grim conclusion about the tragedy. They ruled out an accidental hit entirely, stating that the school was the clear and intended target.
The official UN document included heartbreaking visual evidence. While older photos showed colorful murals and playgrounds, footage from the aftermath revealed burning ruins and scattered textbooks.
American officials have completely refused to accept responsibility for the bombing. Trump instead suggested that Tehran might be to blame.
This refusal to accept fault is exactly why Gershman wants the ICC to step in immediately. The professor argues that this bombing was not an isolated incident.
A legal reckoning
Gershman points to a string of other aggressive military actions. He specifically highlights deadly US strikes on boats in the Caribbean and a recent military invasion of Venezuela.
These events prompted UN Secretary-General António Guterres to question the future of global diplomacy.
Guterres asked, “The question is basically this: will we act so that power is governed by law or by force? Cooperation or coercion?”
The international court in The Hague has already indicted 74 people for war crimes. If Gershman has his way, the Trump administration will soon join that infamous list.
