French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou has launched an unprecedented attack on U.S. President Donald Trump, accusing him of upending international alliances and making the world a more dangerous place.
Bayrou’s remarks come amid growing tensions over Trump’s foreign policy decisions, particularly regarding Ukraine and his increasingly close stance toward Moscow.
“A Destruction of International Order”
As reported by Digi24, Bayrou criticized Trump’s actions since taking office in January, arguing that his administration has disrupted global stability.
The French leader pointed to Trump’s statements suggesting that Russian President Vladimir Putin is right and his decision to abandon Ukraine as key examples of how the U.S. president has reshaped alliances in a way that benefits Moscow.
Bayrou went even further, accusing Trump of engaging in a trade war with allies while making territorial claims on sovereign nations such as Canada, Greenland, and the Panama Canal.
According to the French prime minister, these moves amount to a “destruction of international order” and a direct challenge to Western democratic values.
Turning Allies into Enemies
One of Bayrou’s most pointed criticisms was that Trump’s policies have effectively turned America’s traditional allies into adversaries.
He highlighted the stark contrast between the U.S. stance and Russia’s growing military budget, noting that while Moscow dedicates 40% of its national budget to its armed forces, Trump has been alienating NATO partners instead of reinforcing alliances.
“I hold Donald Trump responsible for making the world even more dangerous than it already was,” Bayrou declared, making clear that France views the current trajectory of U.S. policy as a serious threat to global security.
With Europe increasingly uncertain about America’s role on the world stage, Bayrou’s remarks reflect a broader frustration among Western leaders who fear that Trump’s foreign policy decisions could weaken longstanding partnerships and embolden authoritarian regimes.
