Israel launched an attack on Iran’s nuclear programme Friday morning, and Iran has retaliated.
What is happening?
Israel has struck nuclear facilities in Iran during the night.
Military commanders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has also been targeted.
What has been hit?
According to Reuters, an unknown officials said that Israel has hit 20 nuclear and military targets.
According to witnesses, explosions were reported near Iran’s main uranium enrichement facility.
15 nukes in a few days
The official also claimed that Iran had enough nuclear material to create 15 nuclear bombs in a matter of days.
The official did not provide any evidence to support the claim.
Military headquarter hit
According to Iranian state-tv, the headquarters of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the capitol Teheran has also been hit.
According to Iranian state media, residential areas has also been hit with several children being injured and killed. This information has not been independently verified.
Casualties
Iran’s leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, is reported to be alive and has been briefed about the attack, according to Reuters.
Two nuclear scientists have been killed, as well as the top commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
A political advisor to the Ayatollah is reported to have been critically injured.
Netanyahu: “We are at a decisive moment in Israel’s history”
In a recorded message, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu told the Israeli population that the country is “at a decisice moment in Israel’s history”.
“This operation will continue for as many days as it takes to remove the threat,” he added, after saying that Iran is a threat to Israel’s survival.
Rubio: US not involved
US Secretary of State, Marco Rubia, said in a statement that the US is not involved in the strikes on Iran.
While the U.S. tried to distance itself from Israel’s military operation, an Israeli official told public broadcaster Kan that Israel had coordinated with Washington on Iran.
Iran retaliates
As retaliation, Iran has launched more than 100 drones towards Israel in a matter of hours, an Israeli military spokesperson said.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a statement that Israel had “unleashed its wicked and bloody” hand in a crime against Iran and that it would receive “a bitter fate for itself”.
