Israel has expanded its military campaign in Lebanon and ordered the evacuation of all areas south of the Zahrani River as operations against Hezbollah intensify.
Israel has announced a major expansion of its military operations in Lebanon, ordering civilians to leave a vast area south of the Zahrani River.
The move comes as fighting with Hezbollah intensifies and diplomatic efforts continue behind the scenes.
Evacuation order
According to Digi24, citing France Info, the Israeli military ordered the evacuation of all areas south of the Zahrani River, located around 40 kilometres from the Israeli border.
In a message published on Telegram, Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee warned residents that buildings used by Hezbollah could become military targets.
“Any building used by Hezbollah for military purposes can become a target!” he said.
The order significantly expands the area affected by Israel’s operations in southern Lebanon.
Expanding offensive
According to Digi24, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israeli forces had crossed the Litani River and launched operations near Beaufort Castle and the Wadi al-Saluki area.
The stated objective is to eliminate threats to Israeli communities in northern Galilee and the town of Metula.
Israel said the offensive is also intended to strengthen operational control in southern Lebanon.
Lebanese response
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned Israel’s actions, describing them as a policy of “scorched earth” and collective punishment.
Despite the criticism, Salam expressed support for continuing negotiations with Israel, calling diplomacy the “least costly path” for Lebanon.
According to Digi24, a new round of talks between representatives of both countries is scheduled to take place in Washington on June 2 and 3.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun also denounced the expansion of Israeli attacks and the destruction of homes and historical sites.
Regional stakes
The conflict has caused widespread destruction and displacement across Lebanon.
According to Lebanese authorities cited by Digi24, Israeli operations have killed more than 3,371 people and displaced over one million residents since the fighting began.
The future of Israel’s campaign in Lebanon is also tied to broader regional negotiations, with Iran reportedly making an end to the military operation one of its conditions for a wider Middle East agreement.
