Meanwhile, a staggering 43 percent openly dislike her. Another 18 percent remain neutral.
According to a report by The Express, this is her worst rating ever recorded. It even drops below her previous low in January 2021. That was when the couple first left Washington.
The dangerous silence
The sudden slide leaves her navigating a harsh public backlash throughout 2026. Many wonder why she struggles to win hearts.
Legal adviser and political commentator Jamie E. Wright believes the answer is simple. Wright told The Express US that the widespread disapproval stems directly from her total absence from the public stage.
Americans expect their first lady to feel accessible and involved. Instead, Melania has built a cold facade that makes it impossible for everyday people to understand her true intentions.
Withdrawing into the dark has backfired. As Wright neatly summarized the problem: “As we all know, silence rarely remains neutral. When a public figure doesn’t tell their own story, others will tell it for them, and as we also know, that story is rarely positive.”
Showing real vulnerability
Turning this negative tide around will require a massive shift in strategy. Wright advises the first lady to completely abandon polished PR campaigns or expensive wardrobe updates.
The path forward relies entirely on showing genuine vulnerability. She needs to speak directly and honestly to the American people.
Melania could openly discuss her personal journey as an immigrant arriving in the United States. She could share the unique challenges of raising a child under the harsh glare of the international media.
Voters would also connect with the reality of managing a highly scrutinized marriage. Showing an authentic, flawed human being beats a flawless facade every single time.
