Advanced target tracking
The new project forms a core element of the Space-Based Airborne Moving Target Indicator initiative. This ambitious program is designed to monitor aircraft, cruise missiles, and unmanned drones anywhere on Earth from a permanent orbital vantage point.
Military leaders plan to have the initial constellation of spy satellites fully operational by 2028. By shifting surveillance to orbit, the military can maintain constant tracking over hostile territory without risking the lives of human aircrews.

This historic award marks the second massive military contract secured by the corporation in less than a week. Days earlier, the company locked in a separate $2.29 billion deal to build a secure space data network backbone.
Despite these massive consecutive wins, defense officials insist they will not place all their trust in a single private entity. Competition remains a priority. Multiple additional awards are expected over the coming year to expand the program.
