Expert: This is why The Ukraine War may be far from its end

An expert warns that the war in Ukraine remains deadlocked, with no peace agreement likely in the near future.

More than four years after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the prospects for peace remain uncertain.

The conflict has evolved into a prolonged struggle in which neither Moscow nor Kyiv has managed to secure a decisive breakthrough.

Anthony Glees believes that developments on the battlefield do not point to a swift end to the conflict. He said this in an interview with the Daily Express.

According to the expert, there remains a significant gap between the two sides, making a peace agreement difficult to envision in the short term.

Stalemated Situation

Since 2022, the war has shifted from rapid offensives to a more exhausting war of attrition.

At the same time, both countries continue to carry out attacks along the front line and deep inside their opponent’s territory.

“I do not believe this war will be over any time soon, in the sense of there being a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia,” Glees told the Daily Express.

He points out that the fighting continues with great intensity, even though territorial changes in many areas are occurring slowly.

Uncertain Future

According to the professor, Russia has not achieved the results it originally hoped for at the start of the invasion, the Daily Express reports.

He therefore believes that the conflict could continue for an extended period.

“The Russian war machine has not just ground to an ignominious halt, mired in gore, but since the beginning of 2026, Ukraine has captured more territory from Russia than Russia has taken from Ukraine,” he said.

How the war develops in the coming months will depend both on the situation on the battlefield and on diplomatic initiatives that continue to seek a foundation for a future peace settlement.

Expert Still Sees a Russian Threat

We have also previously reported that other European experts believe the war could have consequences far beyond Ukraine.

Polish security expert Sławomir Dębski has warned that Russia should still be regarded as a serious security challenge for Europe, even though the country has suffered significant military losses since the invasion in 2022.

However, he emphasizes that Russia still has the ability to create instability and exert pressure on European countries.

Dębski also believes that the outcome of the war could have major implications for Europe’s future security.
