Switzerland has confirmed that the negotiations have been postponed.

US Vice President JD Vance called off his Friday trip to Switzerland, where he was supposed to meet Iranian officials to start official negotiations to end the war.

According to Reuters, the agreement between the US and Iran aims to end the war between Washington and Tehran. However, getting both nations on the same page is proving to be a massive headache.

US officials wanted a big signing ceremony in Geneva this week. But Iran’s foreign ministry brushed off the idea as unnecessary because the two presidents already signed the document on Wednesday.

A statement from the Swizz Federal Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed the postponement of the negotiations.

Behind the scenes

Iran stated it was ready for technical talks after extending the ceasefire for 60 days. Still, deep suspicion remains.

The Iranian news agency Tasnim reported that Tehran’s team wants to see real action from the US first. Because of this, they never confirmed if they would fly to Switzerland.

“The logistics of these negotiations have never been simple or predictable,” a White House spokesperson said in a statement, according to Reuters.

A fragile peace

Meanwhile, Israeli forces continue to fight Hezbollah militants in Lebanon, making many wonder if this truce can actually survive.

After US President Donald Trump announced the deal, a wave of angry reactions rippled through Israeli political circles.

The most vocal backlash came from the Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who quickly slammed the agreement, making it clear that his nation would not follow Washington’s lead blindly.

According to comments cited by Middle East Monitor, Ben-Gvir said, “Israel is not subordinate to the United States. It is an independent and sovereign state, and any agreement reached by Trump does not bind us. We are committed first and foremost to protecting our citizens and soldiers.”

Backlash at home

Back in Washington, President Donald Trump is facing heat from his own party. Several Republican lawmakers are asking if the administration gave up too much to end an unpopular war.

Trump previously insisted he would only accept an “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER” from Iran. Yet this new agreement lifts economic sanctions, unlocks tens of billions of dollars, and allows Iran to export its oil again.

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, claimed Trump signed the deal “out of desperation” and warned that future nuclear talks will be brutal.

In a statement, Khamenei said, “If the American side wants to be too demanding, we will not accept it.”
