New photographs have brought an old online theory back into circulation. The renewed interest coincides with a year in which the first lady has made relatively few public appearances.
White House communications adviser Margo Martin was among the staff members accompanying President Donald Trump on August 11 ahead of his scheduled trip to Ohio.
The White House personnel report identifies Martin as both a special assistant to the president as well as a communications adviser. She has previously been photographed on multiple occasions at presidential events and while traveling alongside other White House personnel during official trips.
The Mirror cited X posts linking Martin to renewed claims about an alleged Melania Trump body double. One user asked, “Hey @margomartin .. Is this you?” A response read, “It is..”
The rumor has history
Questions about a supposed stand-in have circulated for years. Glamour reported on a similar episode in October 2017, when social media users questioned whether the woman standing beside Trump was really Melania. Clearer photographs from the same appearance later showed that the woman was in fact the first lady.
Trump was heading to Ohio for the Patriot Games finals, part of the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of US independence. The event featured young athletes from across the country, including US territories and tribal nations.
Martin was traveling as part of a broader White House group accompanying the president. Her appearance in photographs from the departure later became another point of interest for social media users revisiting the older body double theory.
Melania keeps a limited schedule
An analysis by The Daily Beast reported that Melania has appeared in public 38 times during 2026 by August 11. Around 80 percent of those appearances took place in Washington, showing how rarely she has traveled for public events.
July was her least active month of the year, according to the report. Her appearances that month included Independence Day events and the FIFA World Cup final on July 19, where she was seen alongside President Donald Trump.
The outlet also noted several major events she did not attend. Among them were the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner and the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham.
