Russian television commentators are escalating their rethorics towards Ukraine’s allies.
Tensions between major power players during a war rarely stay confined to diplomatic channels.
Often, public figures get sent out to deliver a message for their bosses.
This time, a television host from Russia has pushed tensions to new, dangerous extremes.
Fierce television rant
A prominent Kremlin TV host has issued volatile threats against Britain during a live state television broadcast. Host Vladimir Solovyov blamed London for recent long-range missile attacks inside Russia and called for direct retaliation.
Solovyov claimed British arms are driving the strikes. Moscow, he argued, must respond well beyond its own territory.
“Right now, strikes deep inside Russia are being carried out with British weapons, yet we are not destroying British factories,” Solovyov said. “This is classic Anglo-Saxon warfare. We must understand who we are fighting and respond asymmetrically.”
Threats beyond borders
The broadcast also celebrated recent industrial fires at European defense facilities in Italy and Bulgaria. Solovyov hinted sarcastically that European weapons plants could see more sudden blazes.
“A large number of factories over there might catch fire unexpectedly,” Solovyov said, blaming bad wiring, underinvestment, and hot weather with a grin.
“Everything over there should burn every single day!” another person during the television program declared.
Frustration at home
The commentators also turned their anger inward toward domestic leaders. They criticized Russian officials for failing to protect fuel stations, allowing professional football games to continue, and maintaining a relaxed peacetime mindset.
Russian society, they stated, must prepare for decades of endless conflict.
The threats by Russian state television are routinely dismissed as empty propaganda meant to scare Europeans. Even so, Ukrainian forces continue using Western equipment to strike key military targets inside Russia.
