She pointed out that her department was handling critical financial tasks.

Workplace transitions are always messy, especially when politics get involved.

Sometimes an employee is deemed completely unacceptable one day, only to become utterly essential the next.

The resulting whiplash can leave everyone scratching their heads.

Sudden changes

When people get fired, they usually hand over their badge and leave forever. But one former intelligence official recently shared a completely different experience on national television.

According to Raw Story decorated former CIA officer Julia Curlee sat down with CNN host Dana Bash on Tuesday. She used the broadcast to detail her abrupt exit from the Trump administration.

Curlee explained that her dismissal happened shortly after her gender identity became a public target. Conservative media figure Laura Loomer had recently launched a campaign against her.

Curlee told CNN the influencer actively “demanded my identity” online. She noted Loomer “asked for someone to reveal [Curlee’s identity] to the world so that we could drive out this trans Biden holdover.”

An unexpected request

The actual firing arrived over the weekend. Curlee received a phone call from her supervisor on a Saturday while spending time with her family.

Her boss officially informed her that her time at the agency was over. Yet, the supervisor immediately followed up with a highly unusual demand.

“At the end of this call from my boss, who had said that my tour was over, they also had asked me to come back to work on Monday,” Curlee said.

“So I was fired on [Saturday] and asked to return,” she added.

Still essential

This bizarre sequence of events completely surprised the television anchor. Bash interrupted to clarify the timeline of the weekend dismissal and the immediate request to return.

“Can we just talk about that?” Bash asked. She summarized the absurdity of getting fired right after a social media attack, only to be begged back days later.

The former officer offered a very practical reason for the mixed signals. “Yeah, they still needed me,” Curlee explained.

During the broadcast, she pointed out that her department was handling critical financial tasks. “I was helping with a very important budget item,” Curlee noted. She added that the new team faced a massive backlog and “we had two years of turnover to conduct.”

Past connections

Curlee previously served as a security advisor for former Vice President Mike Pence during the first Trump administration.

She shared a warm memory of Pence from that era. Curlee recalled an “incredible” moment when the vice president personally comforted her mother regarding her transition.

Bash agreed that Pence was acting kind in that moment. Even so, the anchor simply could not get past the stunning hypocrisy of a weekend firing followed by a desperate plea for help.
