Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected claims that his nation opposes peace following a massive Russian missile and drone attack.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared that Russia is actively blocking international efforts to end the ongoing war. According to the Kyiv Post, the leader rejected recent claims from United States President Donald Trump regarding peace negotiations. The political dispute follows a massive Russian overnight assault that severely damaged civilian energy infrastructure across the entire country.

Trump recently claimed that the Ukrainian leader has absolutely no genuine interest in ending the devastating conflict. In a direct response published on social media, Zelensky insisted that Kyiv has consistently supported every international ceasefire proposal. To illustrate the Russian stance on diplomacy, he wrote, “Ballistic missiles, Shaheds, and killings are once again the responses from Russia.”

Zelensky emphasized that his nation never wanted this war and welcomes fair efforts from international partners to end it. He argued that Russian President Vladimir Putin remains completely unwilling to take any meaningful de-escalation steps. The Ukrainian leader noted that foreign diplomats have personally encountered these persistent Russian refusals during various negotiation attempts.

Sanctions and defense limitations

The American president made his controversial claims while publicly defending his recent decision to waive economic sanctions against Russia. Trump stated he was actively negotiating peace and wanted to keep Moscow engaged at the international bargaining table. Zelensky argued that easing diplomatic pressure on Moscow while simultaneously restricting Ukrainian air defenses completely ignores battlefield realities.

The Ukrainian leader expressed deep frustration over recent allied decisions that limit the national defense capabilities of his country. He specifically highlighted the dangers of blocking the essential supply of interceptor missiles for Ukrainian air defense systems. Zelensky warned that granting sanctions relief to Russia under these vulnerable circumstances represents a dangerous denial of reality by international partners.

This diplomatic tension occurs alongside unprecedented aerial bombardments targeting civilian populations and critical infrastructure networks. During the latest overnight assault, the Russian military launched a deliberate attack featuring 16 destructive ballistic missiles. The comprehensive strike specifically targeted the capital city of Kyiv alongside its surrounding regional territories.

Widespread infrastructure destruction

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian forces launched a total of 269 unmanned drones during the coordinated assault. This massive aerial bombardment killed 1 civilian and injured 8 others within the capital city alone. Zelensky noted with concern that Kyiv received no advance warning from international partners before the ballistic missiles struck.

The overnight strikes successfully damaged more than 10 critical energy facilities spread across 11 different Ukrainian regions. These coordinated infrastructure attacks immediately left at least 550,000 families without access to basic electricity. Emergency repair crews deployed rapidly to the affected sites to begin restoring power to the impacted civilian populations.

The widespread destruction extended beyond the energy grid to impact various other essential civilian facilities. The bombardments damaged a medical clinic, a local school, a metro station, and numerous residential buildings. Concluding his statement, Zelensky urged international partners to formally identify Russia as the aggressor and actively help Ukraine protect innocent lives.
