Donald Trump faces an uncomfortable interruption after a protester brings up his past flights aboard Jeffrey Epstein’s private plane.

Donald Trump has spent much of October traveling across the United States, attempting to energize Republican voters ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.

The president’s campaign appearances have featured familiar attacks on Democrats, praise for Republican candidates and lengthy departures from his prepared political message.

But during a rally in Chillicothe, Ohio, on Wednesday evening, Trump found himself discussing a subject that has repeatedly followed him throughout his political career.

A protester interrupted the event with a reference to Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier whose connections to wealthy and influential figures continue to attract scrutiny.

The interruption prompted Trump to launch into a lengthy defense of his past relationship with Epstein, while security personnel dealt with several protesters inside the venue.

Protester interrupts Trump with Epstein accusation

The incident occurred while Trump was speaking about Republican Senator Jon Husted, who is campaigning to retain the Senate seat previously held by Vice President JD Vance.

Trump had been recounting an anecdote involving his admiration for Husted’s backside when he briefly stepped away from the microphone.

A man in the audience seized the opportunity to shout about the president’s past association with Epstein.

“Trump went on the Jeffrey Epstein plane!” the protester yelled.

The interruption immediately drew boos from Trump supporters as security personnel moved to remove the man from the venue.

The protester later identified himself as Rob Potylo, a comedian, musician and political activist who performs under the name Robby Roadsteamer.

Potylo is known for satirical songs targeting Trump and has previously appeared at political demonstrations wearing a giraffe costume.

For Wednesday’s appearance, however, he chose a different outfit.

Instead of his familiar animal costume, Potylo wore a pro-Trump hat while attending the rally.

Following the incident, he posted footage on Instagram and X, describing his encounter with the president.

“Just got Trump in Chillicothe Ohio!” he wrote.

“Sang The Epstein Plane song, called him ‘Pumpkin Spice Peeedo’ and gave him the finger then got attacked!”

The activist was referring to his parody song Jeffrey Epstein Plane, which he previously published on YouTube.

He subsequently reassured his followers that he appeared to be unharmed.

“I’m okay I think! I do it for you!” he added.

Trump responds with a lengthy defense

Trump initially dismissed the protester, claiming that he had been paid to disrupt the event.

The president also commented on the man’s age, describing him as “not a young guy.”

But the disruption did not end there.

Another protester interrupted from the opposite side of the venue, while some members of the crowd began chanting “USA.”

Trump eventually returned to the first protester’s reference to Epstein.

“You know, he mentioned Epstein. So I threw Jeffrey Epstein out of the club like 20 years ago because I thought he was a whackjob,” Trump told the audience.

“That was a great thing I did, I must say.”

The president was referring to his claim that he had banned Epstein from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

Trump then attempted to associate the late financier with his Democratic political opponents.

“And he never came up with me. You know who he came up with? All of the friends of the Democrats. He was a Democrat,” Trump continued.

His comments overlooked a detail from his own political history.

Trump himself was registered as a Democrat from 2001 until September 2009, when he returned to the Republican Party.

Trump insists he was cleared of wrongdoing

The president continued discussing Epstein, apparently referring at one point to former Treasury Secretary and Harvard University President Larry Summers.

“And whenever they bring his name, you know, like the guy who was the head of Harvard who can’t—who got thrown off the board,” Trump said.

He then repeated his account of ending Epstein’s access to his Florida property.

“No, I threw Jeffrey Epstein the hell out of Mar-A-Lago.”

Trump also claimed that investigations had cleared him of any wrongdoing connected to the financier.

“And I was the one who was completely exonerated from him, but, uh, you know, they use it because that’s what they do. They’re sick, weak people,” he told supporters.

The president’s assertion requires an important distinction.

Although Trump has repeatedly maintained that he did not participate in Epstein’s criminal activities, the Justice Department has not issued the formal declaration of exoneration that he has publicly described.

Being mentioned in investigative records does not establish criminal wrongdoing, and the released documents do not, by themselves, demonstrate that Trump participated in Epstein’s offenses.

The president has denied any involvement in misconduct.

Flight records contradict an earlier Trump claim

The controversy surrounding Trump’s relationship with Epstein has persisted partly because of discrepancies between his previous public statements and information contained in released records.

In 2024, Trump wrote on Truth Social that he had “never on Epstein’s Plane.”

However, documents subsequently made public under the Epstein Files Transparency Act included information indicating that Trump had traveled aboard Epstein’s private aircraft.

According to an email written by an assistant US attorney in January 2020, Trump appeared on passenger records for at least eight flights between 1993 and 1996.

The prosecutor wrote:

“Donald Trump traveled on Epstein’s private jet many more times than previously has been reported (or that we were aware).”

The aircraft became widely known by the nickname “Lolita Express” because of its association with Epstein and allegations surrounding his sexual exploitation of young women and girls.

Flight records documenting Trump’s presence aboard the aircraft do not establish that he was involved in criminal activity.

Nevertheless, the records conflict with his earlier categorical denial of having traveled on Epstein’s plane.

According to The New York Times, Trump’s name appeared in more than 5,300 documents released under the transparency legislation.

The significance of individual references varies, and their inclusion should not be interpreted as evidence of criminal conduct without additional supporting information.

White House rejects the criticism

The White House defended Trump following the confrontation in Ohio.

Spokesperson Lauren Bis told The Daily Beast that the president had been cleared of wrongdoing related to Epstein and pointed to the administration’s handling of government records.

“Just as President Trump has said, he’s been totally exonerated on anything relating to Epstein,” Bis said.

She also cited the release of thousands of pages of documents, cooperation with a House Oversight Committee subpoena and Trump’s signing of the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

According to Bis, the president has done more for Epstein’s victims than previous leaders, a claim presented by the White House rather than an independently established finding.

Trump has repeatedly argued that his former association with Epstein ended long before the financier’s final arrest.

Epstein had previously been convicted in Florida of offenses involving prostitution, including soliciting a minor.

He was arrested again in 2019 on federal sex trafficking charges and died by suicide in a New York jail while awaiting trial.

Questions about his connections to powerful individuals have continued since his death.
