A popular lean ground beef product sold in London, Ontario, has been recalled due to E. coli contamination, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced.

The product in question is Aladdin Foods Lean Ground Beef, sold exclusively at Aladdin’s Foods grocery store and butchery in London, Ontario.

The affected packages are marked with a packaged date of February 24, 2025, and a best-before date of February 28, 2025.

Although the product is no longer on shelves, the CFIA warns that consumers may still have it stored in their freezers.

Contamination Confirmed

The recall was triggered after routine testing detected E. coli bacteria in the ground beef.

While no illnesses have been reported so far, officials are urging anyone who purchased the product to not consume it and to discard it immediately or return it to the store.

The CFIA noted that although this is currently a single-product recall, more recalls could follow if further contamination is found in related products.

Know the Symptoms

If you’ve eaten ground beef and are feeling unwell, contact a healthcare provider.

E. coli infection can cause:

  • Severe stomach cramps

  • Diarrhea (often bloody)

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Low-grade fever

In rare cases, complications like hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) can develop, which is more serious and requires immediate medical care.

What to Do

Check your freezer for the affected product.

Don’t eat it — even if it looks or smells normal.

Return or dispose of the beef according to the store’s or CFIA’s instructions.

More information about the recall is available on the CFIA website, where updates will be posted if the situation expands.
