The Romanian election ended with a surprise win for centrist Nicusor Dan against the hard-right George Simion.

Simion has been ahead in the polls in the weeks leading up to the election, so it came as a surprise then the results showed that Dan had sevured 54 % of the votes.

The election was actually a re-do of the original election being held in late 2024. The result from this election was annuled due to Russian interference.

Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitrij Peskov, spoke to the Russian newspaper Kommersant Monday, where he called the result of the election “weird, to say the least”.

In a comment on claims from Telegram-founder, Pavel Durov, regarding interference from French intelligence servicses, Peskov said that it’s nothing new that European states like France, UK and Germany interferes in other countries affairs.

In a post on X, Pavel Durov has accused the French spy chief, Nicolas Lerner, og trying to get Durov to block conservative voices in Romania ahead of the election.
Durov rejected the request, he said.
France denies involvement

The Directorate-General for External Security (French equivelant of the CIA), has released a statement admitting meetings between officials and Durov over the years, but the DSGE strongly denies any claims of trying to interfere in the Romanian election.
