Ukraine has endured the most intense aerial bombardment since the war began, with Russia launching 741 attack drones and missiles in a single night. The onslaught targeted cities across the country and signaled Moscow’s rejection of ceasefire efforts, according to President Zelensky.

An Unprecedented Barrage

President Zelensky described the wave of 741 air threats as the largest single-day aerial attack since February 2022. The majority—728—were drones, including more than 300 Iranian-designed Shaheds. The remaining 13 were Kinzhal and Iskander missiles.

Volyn Region Hit Hardest

The main target was the city of Volyn in northwestern Ukraine. Local officials reported roughly 50 drones and five missiles were fired at the area, causing widespread damage in what they called the most massive strike the city has faced to date.

Ukrainian Air Defenses Hold the Line

Ukraine’s air force claims it neutralized 718 incoming aerial threats, shooting down 303 of them, including nearly 300 Shahed drones. Electronic warfare units and mobile fire teams also played a critical role in the defense.

Calls for Secondary Sanctions

The Ukrainian president reiterated his call for aggressive sanctions on Russian oil exports and on countries and companies that continue to buy from Moscow. He stressed that only economic pressure can stop the flow of funds to Russia’s military.
