The British royal family is once again facing public scrutiny.
This time it is over reports that Prince William allegedly pressured his cousins, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, to help remove their father, Prince Andrew, from Royal Lodge, the lavish Windsor estate where he has lived since 2008 with ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.
The claims, made by journalist Emily Maitlis on her podcast The News Agents, suggest that William told his cousins their royal titles could be at risk if Andrew refused to vacate the property.
“You need your father to move out of Royal Lodge, or we’ll start looking at your own titles,” Maitlis said William allegedly told the princesses, according to People magazine.
However, the report has not been independently verified, and People also cites royal sources who deny that any such meeting ever took place.
Royal pressure or just speculation?

Maitlis, best known for her 2019 Newsnight interview with Prince Andrew that contributed to his withdrawal from public life, said there was clear media interest around Royal Lodge at the time, including a BBC helicopter team on site.
She also claimed King Charles III had planned to make a public visit to Royal Lodge, returning from a meeting with the Pope at the Vatican, but reportedly canceled the appearance due to concerns about being filmed by the press.
“When they saw the helicopters and the camera crews, they thought, ‘This has gone too far.’ So they canceled the whole thing,” she said.
Royal authority and legal reality
While Prince William, as heir to the throne, holds significant influence within the royal household, he does not have the legal authority to revoke titles.
Stripping a royal of their title would require an act of Parliament, not a family ultimatum.

Despite the rumors, Beatrice and Eugenie’s positions are not in jeopardy, and they are expected to retain their titles and continue participating in official family events.
Meanwhile, Prince Andrew has reportedly agreed to step away from the title “Duke of York” and is expected to leave Royal Lodge in the near future.
