A U.S. Postal Service driver has been charged after authorities say he tried to hit a 10-year-old boy with his delivery truck during a dispute over a misdelivered package in Florida.
William White, 41, is accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, petit theft and criminal mischief. The incident happened on December 27 in Escambia County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, White delivered a package to the wrong address on Kingfisher Way. The child who lives at the home noticed the package belonged elsewhere and placed it on his electric scooter to return it to the correct address.
Alleged assault
Investigators say White saw the boy with the package and believed it was being stolen. Authorities allege White then drove the USPS truck directly toward the child, running over the scooter.
The boy was able to move into a nearby yard before being struck.

Police say White removed the damaged scooter from beneath the truck, put it inside the vehicle and drove away while shouting at the child. A family member followed the mail truck to confront him, at which point White allegedly threw the scooter into another yard.
White was arrested on December 31 when he reported to work. He was booked into the Escambia County Jail and later released on $5,500 bond.
The U.S. Postal Service said it is investigating the incident alongside local law enforcement.
In a statement, the agency said it takes customer safety seriously and confirmed the driver has been employed since 2025, but declined to comment further on personnel matters.
