Marvel has made it official. After days of leaks and speculation, a long-rumoured comeback has now been confirmed on the big screen.
The reveal arrived quietly but decisively, tying a familiar face to Marvel’s next major chapter without spelling out exactly what lies ahead.
As actions have been taken by the legal copyright owners, the leaks have been removed both from Reddit and from X, however IGN were fast enough to write about it.
Trailer unveiled
Disney has now released the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday in cinemas, following its leak online earlier this week.
The footage is playing alongside early screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash.
The short teaser opens with a man parking a motorcycle outside a suburban house styled like the 1950s.
Moments later, Chris Evans is revealed on screen, carefully putting away his Captain America uniform before appearing with a baby in his arms.
The clip then cuts to black, confirming with on-screen text: “Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday.” A countdown clock follows, marking the time until the film’s release on December 18, 2026.
Controlled rollout
Earlier the same day, directors Joe and Anthony Russo shared a separate teaser featuring the same countdown clock, posted exactly one year before the film’s theatrical debut.
According to IGN, fans attending Avatar: Fire and Ash screenings around the world had expected to see the trailer, though many did not.
Disney appears to be keeping the footage on a limited theatrical rollout, with leaked clips still being removed from social media via copyright claims.
The strategy suggests a carefully managed release designed to build anticipation rather than flood audiences with footage.
Hints and rumours
Evans’ return had been widely suspected even before the trailer surfaced.
Reports from earlier this year pointed to a 1950s-style house being constructed for filming, closely matching the setting of Steve Rogers’ final scene in Avengers: Endgame.
Fans also scrutinised recent photos of Evans, noting what appeared to be a return to his Captain America-era physique.
The trailer now confirms those suspicions.
Story questions
Steve Rogers was last seen in Endgame returning the Infinity Stones, only to remain in the past and live a quiet life with Peggy Carter.
He later reappeared as an old man to pass his shield to Sam Wilson.
Fans now believe Doomsday may explore events from that unseen period. Some speculate that Rogers’ actions across timelines could draw the attention of Doctor Doom, potentially setting up a new rivalry.
The Russos have previously hinted, as early as 2021, that Steve’s story was not fully finished.
Disney is reportedly planning multiple Doomsday trailers with Avatar over the coming weeks. Confirming Evans’ return appears to be just the opening move.
