A new television take on Far Cry is moving ahead, bringing the game franchise’s unpredictable energy to FX and Hulu.
The project reunites prominent figures in TV drama and comedy, setting the stage for a high-octane anthology built around shifting locales and escalating chaos.
Early details remain limited, but the creative team says the spirit of the long-running Ubisoft series will shape the show’s structure and tone.
A shifting world
FX confirmed that Alien Earth creator Noah Hawley will produce the adaptation, while It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney will lead the cast and share producing duties.
Hawley told reporters that the franchise’s format appealed to him because “each game is a variation of a theme, the same way each season of Fargo is a variation on a theme.”

He said the team is aiming to deliver “a big action show that can change from year to year, while always exploring the nature of humanity through this complex and chaotic lens,” calling the project “a dream come true.”
Hawley added that he was eager to work with McElhenney, noting their “shared irreverent, ambitious sensibility.”
New setting each season
According to FX, every season is expected to move to a different backdrop, echoing the structure of the video-game series.
McElhenney will remain at the center of the story as the anthology shifts from one tumultuous environment to another.
Ubisoft has not revealed a release window or narrative specifics. The games have previously ventured to Montana, the Himalayas, and several lawless frontiers populated by cult leaders, dictators and pirates, offering the showrunners a wide sandbox to draw from.
