Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has declared that winning the UEFA Europa League was not the end goal, but just the beginning. In a candid interview with the club’s in-house media, Levy outlined his ambition for the club to win the Premier League and even the Champions League, as he explained the high-stakes decision to replace Ange Postecoglou with Thomas Frank as head coach.

The Levy Ambition

Tottenham’s Europa League triumph over Manchester United, a 1-0 victory that marked their first trophy in 17 years, was a historic moment, but one Levy insists cannot be the ceiling for the club.

You saw the outpouring of emotion with the parade. It was just incredible,” said Levy. “We’ve won a European trophy. But it’s not enough. We want to win the Premier League. We want to win the Champions League.

Why Thomas Frank?

In what was clearly a meticulous recruitment process, Spurs’ CEO Vinai Venkatesham revealed that over 30 candidates were evaluated to succeed Postecoglou. Yet, one name stood out above all others, Thomas Frank.

Thomas was absolutely the number one candidate,” said Venkatesham.
“One of the things I’m really excited about is that he is an outstanding developer of young players. I really look forward to seeing what he can do with the squad that we have here.

Frank’s ability to nurture talent and impose tactical identity made him the perfect fit for a club that now balances immediate success with long-term development.

No Regrets About Postecoglou

Despite parting ways with Ange Postecoglou, who was appointed in July 2023, Levy maintained that he stood by the original decision.

We had no regrets appointing Ange,” Levy stated, acknowledging the foundation Postecoglou laid during his tenure.

Indeed, Postecoglou helped steer Tottenham to European success, but with the Premier League campaign underwhelming, culminating in a 17th-place finish, Levy and his team felt the need to pivot decisively.

Looking Ahead

With Frank now in the hot seat, Tottenham embarks on a new chapter with lofty expectations. Backed by a board eager to see the club elevate from cup contenders to title challengers, and led by a coach renowned for player development and tactical innovation, Spurs will aim to fuse ambition with execution.

If Frank succeeds, it won’t just be another rebuild, it could be Tottenham’s renaissance.
