There are political differences in the approvals, but there are clear signs of bipartisan doubt.

A new national survey has placed the White House on the defensive, revealing broad unease with US President Donald Trump’s approach to Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The findings land just as US officials accelerate negotiations that they hope will deliver a breakthrough before the end of the year.

The latest YouGov polling, released Nov. 26, suggests those efforts are unfolding against an electorate that remains deeply unconvinced.

Only 1 in 3 approves

The survey reports that 46% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the conflict, while 36% approve.

A full 36% “strongly disapprove,” making it the largest single bloc measured. Those numbers undercut the administration’s recent claims of “tremendous progress” toward a 19-point peace package it is pushing in talks with Moscow and Kyiv.

Clear political differences, but …

Support breaks sharply along party lines, yet vulnerabilities appear across the board. According to the poll,

75% of Democrats disapprove, including 62% who express strong opposition.

Among independents, 47% disapprove and 30% approve, indicating that the White House has not expanded support beyond its Republican base.

Even among Republicans, where 70% express approval, the 22% who disapprove represent a meaningful slice of the president’s own coalition.

New push for peace unlikely to succeed

Last week, a U.S.-Russian-made 28-point draft for peace in Ukraine was revealed.

It has since been revised and now cut down to 19 points, and the European nations have revealed their own suggestion to a plan as well.

The Kremlin has stated that the initial 28-point draft could be the framework for negotiations, but has slammed the European proposal as it does “not work for Russia”, as Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters in Moscow according to Reuters.
