Royal Marsden Hospital welcomes back Princess Kate after successful remission
Surprise appearances from royalty often carry deep personal significance, especially when tied to health and recovery. London healthcare workers experienced one such moment on Friday during a special visit focused on patient wellness and expanded support services.
Staff members at the Royal Marsden Hospital welcomed back a former patient who underwent cancer treatment at the facility in 2024. The Princess of Wales returned to express personal thanks to clinicians and leadership following her announcement last January that she was in remission. Discussions centered around expanding holistic care frameworks for ongoing treatments.
Personal experiences formed the core of the dialogue, with Catherine reflecting on her six months of chemotherapy. She noted that nature, good nutrition, and ongoing support “made a big difference” during her treatment path.
Dressed in a striking emerald green midi dress, Catherine met with senior executives and clinicians to discuss how non-medical therapies complement standard medical protocols.
“This was my small way of being able to give back and say thank you to you,” she shared when discussing her recent efforts to support the facility.
“I had incredible care here and support from a huge team and I’m really, really grateful on a personal level. But also the holistic care; the treatments and therapeutic support on the outside is so important, it makes a big difference,” Catherine stated.

Endurance Challenges and Family Impact
Physical exertion played a major role in her personal journey following medical recovery. Back in June, Catherine completed the demanding Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours to raise funds for the hospital while seeking to “explore life beyond diagnosis.”
She explained to hospital staff that tackling the endurance test on her own served as “my small way” of showing gratitude.
Conversations moved into the medical day unit, where patients undergo various treatment combinations. Catherine spent time with Sam Suriakumar, a 41-year-old father of two young daughters aged five and three, who received a brain tumour diagnosis six years ago. Their lengthy exchange focused on how serious health diagnoses impact children and wider family units.
