Putin has remained in the Moscow region for nearly 200 days amid growing security concerns linked to the war in Ukraine.
For nearly 200 days, Russian President Vladimir Putin has remained in the Moscow region. During this period, there have been no official visits to other Russian regions, Kyiv Post reports.
This is already a longer pause in domestic travel than during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. The information comes from the independent Russian media outlet Agenstwo.
Security concerns are considered the main reason behind the significantly reduced domestic travel.
Putin Remains in Moscow
The last recorded visit took place on November 6, 2025, in Samara, southeastern Russia.
As the war has progressed, many of Putin’s activities have reportedly been concentrated in the Moscow area following several Ukrainian attacks on Russian targets.
Before the escalation of the war, it was a regular part of Putin’s schedule to meet with local authorities and attend public events across the country, Kyiv Post reports.
New Pattern
The record during the coronavirus pandemic was 132 days without Putin traveling to the regions.
Although the new travel pattern is believed to be driven by security concerns, the Kremlin has not yet provided an explanation for why Putin continues to avoid longer trips, Kyiv Post reports.
The last time Putin gave a public speech involving a genuine security risk was during the Victory Day parade on May 9, 2026.
We have previously reported on this significant day in Russia, which this year was unusually scaled down due to fears of Ukrainian drone attacks.
The event was also held under extremely tight security in Red Square, where the holiday celebration took place.
