A tragedy has struck American politics as North Dakota Senator Doug Larsen and his family were killed in a plane crash.
The news was confirmed on Monday through an email sent by the Republican leader in the state, David Hogue, to his colleagues.
According to The Guardian, the crash occurred after Doug Larsen, his wife, and two children took off from Canyonland and crashed in Utah.
"They were visiting their family in Scottsdale and were on their way back home. They stopped in Utah to refuel," wrote David Hogue in an email.
Hogue also expressed his sorrow for the tragedy, stating,
"I don't know where to begin with the grief over such a tragedy, but I think it starts with praying for the grandparents who outlive their deceased child, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. Hold your family close today."
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
