A dramatic overnight drone assault has partially destroyed a key Russian dam in the Belgorod region, unleashing floodwaters that cut off Moscow’s forces near the Ukrainian border.
Officials in both countries reported that the attack caused widespread flooding and left several Russian brigades stranded on the wrong side of the river.
Videos of the damaged dam are circulating online, and the BBC has verified the footage.
Flooded positions
The strike hit the Belgorod Reservoir dam, located north of Ukraine’s Kharkiv Oblast.
By morning, water levels had dropped by around one metre, while floodwaters swept through Russian defensive positions along the Seversky Donets River.
