Abdul El-Sayed won the Democratic nomination for Senate in Michigan. This has drawn stark criticism from both the President and Vice President.
The midterm elections in the U.S. are coming up on the first Tuesday of November.
But the war of words has already broken out between the Republicans and the Democratic Party.
And it all revolves around MAGA Republicans and a socialist Democrat who earned his party’s nomination in Michigan.
Surprising victory
Progressive Democrat Abdul El-Sayed pulled off an unexpected victory in the Michigan primary on Wednesday. He defeated U.S. Representative Hayley Stevens.
The win for El-Sayed was a surprise since Stevens was backed by more centrist Democrats as well as the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, which poured $62 million in advertising spending.
The result immediately caught attention in Washington. During an anti-fraud roundtable at the White House, Vice President JD Vance weighed in on the race with sharp criticism.
He warned against the primary winner ever reaching higher office.
“We don’t want the next administration, whoever — God forbid you’re gonna have President El-Sayed in three years,” Vance said.
Vance defends the administration’s policies
The vice president quickly defended his administration’s work while pushing back against the newly nominated candidate. He argued that a future opponent could derail their policy agenda.
“We don’t want him to undo all the incredible work that we’ve been doing when we’ve been taking out the fraudsters and saving the American people money,” he added.
This is the latest victory for progressive Democrats who are challenging the establishment on both sides of the aisle, which continues to draw the ire of many Republicans.
Trump labels El-Sayed a hateful ‘Communist’
Soon after the election was called in El-Sayed’s favor, Republicans rushed to define what kind of candidate and person he was. One of them was the President of the United States.
Donald Trump posted a series of aggressive statements on Truth Social hinting at election fraud.
“Wayne County (Detroit) in Michigan is one of the most corrupt voting areas in the United States, if not the world,” Trump wrote. He also called the area “strictly Third World!”
Trump claimed there were “more votes being cast than there are voters, by a lot.” He then labeled the candidate a “Communist” and a “Radical Left Socialist.” El-Sayed has previously told that he does consider himself a socialist or communist
He warned supporters to “get ready for another Rigged Election.” Finally, he urged voters to back the Republican candidate Mike Rogers, who will face El-Sayed in the general election come November, to make the state “TOO BIG TO RIG.”
