Ken Paxton turns to a ‘secret weapon’ — the most hated man in politics

Desperate times apparently call for Ted Cruz.

Ken Paxton has had a tough midterm election. He has been mired in scandals, and even his own president has repeatedly trashed him for how he looks and dresses.

That means that not only does he have a tough opponent in the popular Democratic nominee James Talarico, but he is also being criticized by his own president, who is supposed to be his number one supporter in a tight race.

So instead, Paxton has turned to a new ally in Texas. He calls him a “secret weapon.” That bulwark is the most hated man in all of politics in America.

Ted Cruz to the rescue

According to Politico, Texas Senator Ted Cruz has been increasingly helping Ken Paxton out behind the scenes. He has made sure Paxton gets face time with all the right donors and minority voters as Paxton faces an uphill battle to beat James Talarico on Tuesday.

“It is absolutely critical that Texas stay red, that Republicans keep a majority in the U.S. Senate and the House, and that we elect Ken Paxton instead of James Talarico,” Cruz said in an interview, according to Politico.

In short, Ted Cruz is “all in” on trying to get Paxton elected, even if that means being the bridge between more moderate Texas conservatives and the MAGA Republicans that Paxton represents.

“This is smart on Ted’s part,” a Texas Republican told Politico. “If Paxton loses, he put his best foot forward, and it’s going to be Paxton’s fault that he lost, not Ted Cruz’s,” the person said.

The most hated man in politics

Paxton’s choice of weapon is quite humorous and ironic, because while Paxton is wildly unpopular, Ted Cruz is even more reviled by both Democrats and Republicans.

While there are numerous articles explaining why Ted Cruz is so hated in politics, the quotes from other politicians are enough to give full context.

Former Democratic Senator Al Franken once wrote, “I like Ted Cruz more than most of my other colleagues like Ted Cruz. And I hate Ted Cruz.”

The late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham was even harsher in his assessment on Cruz. “If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody could convict you,” Graham once said at a dinner.

Even Trump knows it

Even President Donald Trump is aware that almost everyone loathes Ted Cruz. That is why he keeps proposing that they put him on the Supreme Court as a justice, not because he is the right choice, but because he would then be out of the way.

“The Republicans would 100 percent vote for it because they can’t stand him, they’d like to get rid of him,” Trump said during a recent speech.

The Ken Paxton and Ted Cruz odd couple might just pull off an upset on Tuesday. But if Paxton loses, who will the blame fall on? Most certainly not the president who hand-picked him, but maybe Cruz, at whose feet the GOP may attempt to lay the blame.
