Desperate to avoid blame for a looming defeat in the midterms, Trump tells a stunned rally crowd that a loss is their fault.

President Donald Trump has been on the campaign trail the past few weeks, trying to salvage what many are predicting will be a bloodbath at the polls for the GOP.

Trump may be feeling the same thing as he continuously tries to talk up his accomplishments during his first two years in office and promise cash if citizens vote for Republicans.

However, Trump is also sensing that he may not be able to save the midterm elections. So how does a man who never takes responsibility handle a situation like that? He pre-emptively blames his own loyal base.

The blame game

Over the weekend, Trump spoke at a midterm campaign rally in Michigan, where he was trying to help Republican Mike Rogers win his election to the Senate over his opponent, Democrat Abdul El-Sayed.

The speech took a dark, unexpected turn when Trump began musing aloud about what happens if Democrats sweep both chambers of Congress.

“They win, you got it right back, so you will only have yourselves to blame. And I don’t think there’s any coming back from that either,” Trump said to a silent crowd.

Trump is trying to bribe his way to a majority

While Trump has dug up his doomsday rhetoric, he is still trying to court more votes in an interesting way.

He is trying to bribe voters with both money and guarantees that he will help a state out financially. But if a state chooses to vote for a Democrat, the money goes away.

In a speech in North Carolina, Trump talked about Camp Lejeune, a military base where there is an ongoing lawsuit over severe toxic water contamination between 1953 and 1987. Here, Trump promised to help out the “great veterans,” but only if they vote Republican.

“If we win the House and the Senate, I am directing the Department of Justice to settle all remaining legitimate claims as soon as possible and get it off the books […] So if we don’t win, there is no money. If we do win, you’re getting it.”

In the event of a disatrous GOP defeat this Tuesday, it seems as though Trump has already picked his scapegoat.
