OpenAI, the company behind the popular AI service ChatGPT, has achieved a major milestone.

The company recently reported that it has reached annual recurring revenue (ARR) of $10 billion, up from approximately $5.5 billion last year, according to an OpenAI spokesperson who spoke to CNBC. This was reported by Trend.

This figure includes revenue from the company’s consumer products, ChatGPT enterprise offerings, and API services.

Currently, OpenAI serves over 500 million weekly active users and 3 million paying business customers, which has helped drive annual recurring revenue to the equivalent of approximately 65 billion Danish kroner.

This revenue milestone comes roughly two and a half years after OpenAI launched ChatGPT.

The company’s ambitious goal is to reach $125 billion in revenue by 2029, which would correspond to an impressive 816 billion Danish kroner.

Under Pressure to Scale Fast

OpenAI remains under pressure to grow its revenue rapidly.

The company spends billions of dollars annually hiring talent to develop its AI products, as well as securing the necessary infrastructure to train and run its AI systems.

So far, OpenAI has not disclosed detailed information about its operating costs or whether it is approaching profitability. However, it has been clear that despite strong revenue growth, the company has yet to turn a profit.

As a result, OpenAI has remained dependent on external capital injections.

Several large companies have invested in the company across multiple funding rounds — most notably Microsoft, which holds a significant stake.

More details about the company’s financial position are expected to be released in the near future.
