Fast food restaurants are built to look identical no matter where you travel.
They offer a tiny slice of predictable comfort.
But in some cities, even the most recognisable global symbols cannot withstand the brutal reality of daily conflict.
A melted landmark
Ukraine saw its flagship McDonald’s take a severe hit over the weekend. Following a massive Russian bombardment across Kyiv, the iconic golden arches melted under the intense heat.
The restaurant first opened in 1997. It survived multiple close calls over the last two years, narrowly avoiding total destruction during previous air raids. Now, the structure bears heavy physical damage.
Marble walls are completely riddled with holes. Several large windows shattered under the massive pressure of nearby blasts.
Yet the local staff refused to shut down. Brave workers simply kept slinging burgers and fries to their loyal customers amid the surrounding ruins.
Deadly revenge strikes
The resilient fast food crew is working through absolute devastation. Four people died and dozens of others suffered injuries during the massive weekend barrage, according to The Sun.
Every district in the capital reported strikes. Explosions ripped through a busy local market, a large shopping centre, and at least ten different apartment blocks. Children were among those caught in the chaos.
The sheer scale of the attack was staggering. Moscow launched hundreds of explosive drones alongside fifty missiles fired from strategic bombers.
They also deployed a feared Oreshnik ballistic missile toward a town just south of Kyiv. That weapon can carry nuclear payloads. However, this specific strike relied entirely on conventional explosives to cause widespread terror.
Sick ambitions
One senior Ukrainian defense staffer mocked the aggressive military display. The official said, “They launched a nuclear missile without a nuclear warhead to scare us and the world. Idiots.”
The fierce bombardment appears to be a direct response to a recent Ukrainian strike in the occupied Luhansk region. President Volodymyr Zelensky quickly condemned the extreme violence.
Zelensky stated, “This war must be ended, peace is needed, not missiles to satisfy the sick ambitions of one person.”
The threat remains
Meanwhile, the Kremlin is openly threatening even more violence. The Russian foreign ministry warned that new strikes will target “decision-making centres and command posts” in the near future.
Moscow even told foreign diplomats to leave Kyiv immediately. Ukrainian officials dismissed these fresh warnings as “nothing short of blackmail” while desperately calling for continued international support.
